  • Understand the differences between trademarks, copyrights and patents and when you need each of them
  • Work with co-founders
  • Network at startup events — the right way

Congrats to LAVA’s first time entrepreneur program graduates

As president of the LA Venture Association (LAVA), I wanted to send special thanks and congratulations to the great companies that we had participate in our third program for first time entrepreneurs.

The startup founders gave up six hours of their Saturdays to hang out with our speakers at the Real Office Center in Santa Monica. They are now experts on valuation, cap tables, intellectual property and a variety of other important topics.

Thanks again to:

Come learn how to succeed with your first startup

The Los Angeles Venture Association (LAVA) will be hosting its third program for first time entrepreneurs. I will be speaking at the event and providing copies of my book, Getting in the Game, to participants. We will be holding the event on Saturday, January 19th at 10 a.m. at the Real Office Center (604 Arizona Street) in Santa Monica.  Hope to see you there!

Thanks to Amazon Hall of Fame Reviewer for coverage of Getting in the Game book

We were delighted to see a great review of our book, Getting in the Game: Guiding Your Startup Through the World of Venture Capital and Angel Investors from Charles Ashbacher. Mr. Ashbacher went into Amazon’s Reviewer Hall of Fame in 2011 and is one of their Top 500 reviewers. We’re grateful that he thought so highly of the book.

Special Shout Out to Staci Smith

Crowley on Venture has been lucky to have the assistance of PR specialist, book promoter and web designer par excellence, Staci Smith. Staci has been deeply involved in the promotion of Matt’s new book, Getting in the Game: Guiding Your Startup Through the World of Venture Capital and Angel Investors. We’re thrilled to have found her and highly recommend her services.

Getting the pitch deck right

My brilliant associate, Andy Beal, put together a sample pitch deck for us to be able to show clients how to explain their businesses to investors. We think this deck is pretty straight forward and hits all the high notes. We just posted it to our startup toolkit. Happy hunting!
